Create Killer CAD Models!
Even if you’re not an Engineer, you know that 3D printing has been exploding in recent years. Most industrial companies have begun using 3D printers to develop their products large to small; even NASA and SpaceX have begun using the technology on the International Space Station or to develop rocket engine parts. For those that aren’t so adept, here’s an idea on how to spend your free time at home: learn to CAD! Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software can be a great place to start learning how to develop and build 3D models of anything you can imagine. From specific tools to animals, toy cars, or even mechanical parts, CAD allows you to take your designs from your head to your hands through your computer. While most don’t just have 3D printers lying around at home, many libraries have begun to install them for public use. By learning to CAD with free software such as those found here (or using Blender), you can perfect your designs, indulge in some 3D animation, become the talk of your local library, or even come up with some creative and original gifts for the holidays!
